Are YOU interested in policy and funding for public education? Are you looking for even more ways to support Hopkins Public Schools? You might be interested in the Hopkins LAC.
The Hopkins Legislative Action Coalition (LAC) is a group of volunteer parents of current students and alumni who support Hopkins Public Schools by advocating for funding and policy measures at the state and federal levels. The agenda evolves yearly, based on previous legislative outcomes, and must be approved by the Hopkins School Board.
Members of the LAC meet weekly to map out a course toward greater and more equitable funding and policies. To attain those goals, the LAC creates an annual legislative platform; we meet with our nine legislators at the state capitol and in the district; write letters in support of a student's proposal; introduce bills and provide testimony; and host local electoral candidates in a forum to help constituents better understand who they want to vote for.
At different times throughout the year, there are opportunities for students and district families to help with any or all of those activities.
