Nutrition
How do I apply for Free Meals?
The USDA has determined that school meals will NOT be free for all scholars for the 22-23 school year. Therefore, students must have an approved 2022-23 Application for Educational Benefits on file in order to receive free meal benefits.
To apply for free meal benefits, download an application at HopkinsSchools.org/nutrition and click the Free Meals and Food Assistance tab or call Nutrition Services at 952-988-4060. If you are receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, your child qualifies for free school meals.

COVID-19
Hopkins Public Schools follows the guidance of the Minnesota Department of Health/CDC in its response to COVID-19. In the 2022-23 school year, Hopkins will continue to require a five-day minimum isolation for those who test positive for COVID. We will also continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19 in our schools and our community; however, we will not have the capacity to communicate exposures as we have done in the past two years. Families will be notified if we identify clusters of positive cases. Mask wearing is recommended but not required in our buildings or on the bus. Please check our COVID Hub on our website for the latest information on COVID-19 and our current response.
Attendance
If your child is ill or will not be in school for other reasons, please fill out our attendance form or call the absentee number at 952-988-4310.
Leave the following information: student's name, teacher's name, and reason for absentee or tardy. If your child will be absent due to travel or for some reason other than illness, please contact the school for instructional activities.
If your child has COVID-19 symptoms, the school nurse may provide you with specific instructions.
Before/After School Care
Kids & Company is Hopkins Public Schools' before- and after-school and summer care program for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. A fee-based program, Kids & Company is offered in each of the District's six elementary schools.
Due to a national workers shortage, Kids & Company is experiencing a long waitlist. We are working diligently to solve this problem through a variety of solutions and help all of our families who need childcare have access either through Kids & Company or through a partner organization. Waitlist information is available on our Kids & Company page. Scroll down to the "Kids & Company Information" section and choose the Kids & Company Waitlist tab.
If you need childcare and have not signed up with Kids & Company yet, you are still encouraged to do so. We're working through our wait list as quickly as possible and look forward to serving you as soon as we are able. You may want to explore backup-plans as we might not be able to serve you at the start of the school year.
Policies & Legal Notices
View the changes to the Hopkins Public Schools policies and legal notices for the 2022-23 school year. Policies are available in each school office, from the District’s Administrative Office, and on our website.
Communication Systems
Canvas Learning Management System
Canvas is our District-wide learning management system. Using Canvas, teachers can collaborate to build world-class, student-centered experiences delivered in person, distance, or hybrid. Canvas allows each student’s learning to be in one central place. In addition, parents are able to observe and access their child’s classroom experience.
All parents and caregivers should create a Canvas Observer Account (parent account).
Infinite Campus Parent Portal
Parents and guardians can access attendance, schedule, fees, and final grade reports in their Infinite Campus Parent Portal. If you have not logged in for a while, this is a great time to check your contact information and to verify that your census and ethnicity information is up to date. If you have a student attending North Junior High or West Junior High, you will also use the parent portal to view assignment scores. If you do not currently have an account, you can request an account on our website.
School Closings and Emergencies
Our email notification system will be used to inform you about unexpected delays or school closings. We will also post this information on our website, social media, and television stations such as WCCO TV (Channel 4), KSTP TV (Channel 5), KMSP TV (Channel 9), and KARE (Channel 11). An announcement will be sent as early as 5:30 a.m. when school needs to close or start late. Early dismissal from school in session will be announced approximately one hour before dismissal.

Last week, students at Glen Lake had the amazing opportunity to visit the headquarters of Mortenson Construction. They received a tour of the buildings, which included labs, hammers, model cranes, and even some virtual reality.Five students, along with Glen Lake staff and parents, were invited to share a presentation and answer questions about their Accessible Playground Project. Their words were heard by dozens of Mortenson staff in the room, and they also reached over 600 employees via livestream!
